When Johnny Comes Marching Home is a song we all know and love. It evokes the sentiment of wanting the war to be over so our loved ones can finally come home. But what will they come home to find? A country struggling to survive in a global world where the economy no longer promises the American Dream to everyone willing to work for it.
What happened to our young men? Look at pictures of 20 year old men from the 1940's and compare them with today's 20 somethings. In the good old days, the young men were working, getting married, supporting themselves and planning for their glorious futures. Today's young male hasn't completed his education, is permanently perched on his mother's couch, addicted to video games, unemployed and unmotivated.
Where did we go wrong? Why don't boys feel competent and confident in their abilities to navigate through life? Why don't the usual role models yield a finished adult? Drop me a line, I'd like to hear your thoughts.
